MARKET WEIGHTON MAFEKING SCOUT GROUP

The Market Weighton Scout Group was first formed in 1927 by the then vicar of All Saints Church Market Weighton as a sponsored group. It then closed and was re-opened in 1928 as an open group and called 1 st Market Weighton Scouts (All Saints Church). The Group then had a break for the war years and opened again in 1944. In 1950 the Cub Pack was formed. In the early years the group was in the Howdenshire district then in 1960 the group changed its name to just 1 st Market Weighton Scouts and came under the Pocklington District as it is now. Over the years there have been numerous people involved in the Scout Group a certain Mr J R Speak was the Assistant Scout Leader in the 1950s and after a lapse of over 50 years has decided to come back into the fold (secretly he never left).

The Scout Group has met in many places in Market Weighton over the years, such as All Saints Church Hall, above the Blacksmiths, in the old Doctors Surgery in Londesborough Road and in the School Halls then in 1964 the Scout Group moved to its present location on Providence Lane behind the Post Office.
