Item from Town Council meeting of WEDNESDAY 21st March 2012

Events 14th March 2012 - It was AGREED to recommend to full Council that:
• The Friday market be discontinued at the end of March through lack of interest but that the lady with the chiropody van be allowed to continue to park her van on the car park for existing customers

This is a sad day, a case of 'use it or lose it' !!
A few weeks ago I saw some puzzled visitors to the town looking at the empty car park (apart from the guy who always turned up selling his towels etc.) and wondering where the market was.

Lets hope the local producers market doesn't end up with the same fate.

I recently purchased a new Panasonic TV from Comet, and was offered an extended warranty up to 3 years (1 year standard warranty plus 2 years extended warranty) for £179.99.

On registering the TV with Panasonic, via their web site, I was offered a 5 year extended warranty (1 + 4) for £127.68.

Looks like Comet and Domestic & General are real rip-off merchants. It's not the first time that I've found that the original manufacturer can offer a much better warranty than the retailer.

Purchaser beware !!

As you all know, our hard-worked GPs want to build a new health centre as part of the Holme Road development.

They want to provide improved services, including minor surgery and other clinics so people do not need to travel to Hull or Beverley for treatment. Since the present surgery was opened the number of patients has increased by 50% and the surgery is too small to cater for all the services needed.

Improving health care services is a good thing so why are some people against it?

Walk It Your Way Sponsored Walk in aid of Dove House Hospice

2012 sees the Dove House Walk move further up into The Yorkshire Wolds. This area is full of such stunning beauty and scenery that there is a campaign underway to make it an area of natural outstanding beauty.

The Dove House Hospice Walks will start and finish in the ancient town of Market Weighton. We once again are providing walkers with a choice of 3 routes, all with good facilities and provisions along the way.

The 8 mile circuit will lead directly onto the Hudson Way Rail Trail before picking up the Yorkshire Wolds Way through to Goodmanham. A walk through the deer park to Londesborough will see you returning on field paths to Market Weighton.

The 14 mile route will extend the 8 mile walk with a loop over Arras and down to the old station at Kiplingcotes and a connecting rail trail section.

The 21 mile route will head initially towards Sancton then through the Rhododendron Woods near Houghton Hall before ascending to the Wolds Way above North Newbald and joining the 14 mile route at Arras.

The short circuit is undulating with a number of easy small hills and there is a longer but easy and very rewarding climb on the longer routes All the routes are amidst lovely and varied Yorkshire Wolds scenery, passing through picturesque villages and having superb distance views from the higher vantage points. For more information on each walk including refreshment and toilet stops, please visit www.dovehouse.org.uk/walkityourway

Register online and a walker pack will be sent out to you by post.

Hi folks, we are about to relocate to the region so I wonder if I can get some advice about good places to live. We are a small family and we have quiet and relax lifestyle. So a quiet neighborhood with reasonable facilities and a good secondary school not too far away would be ideal for us.
Thanx
David

Hello,

Tesco is planning a supermarket near our small town (size of Weighton) an I wonder if you can help.

The correspondence in our local paper is very negative and quotes Market Weighton as a town ruined by Tesco.

I was part of the WARP project a few years ago and know that there were issues then, prior to Tesco arriving.

I am interested in some local views on Tesco's impact as I feel there must be a more balanced view.

Thanks
