Plans to turn the old chapel on York road are under threat unless community groups come forward who are willing to use the facilities.
The building was bought from Yorkshire Forward for £185,000 in 2005, and planned refurbishment will cost up to £15,000. This may be funded by grant aid but in order for this to happen the funding bodies require proof that the resource will be used. If potential users cannot be found by the end of March 2008 the building may have to be sold.
Weighton Area Regeneration Partnership (WARP) urgently needs to hear from any organisations that would use the building on a regular basis for meetings, plays, rehearsals, drop in centre, band practice etc etc. It is important that we get as many group representatives as possible to ensure the retention of the building for Market Weighton.
More information can be obtained from Market Weighton Town Councillor Peter Hemmerman on tel. 01430 873493.
A public meeting will be held at the Community Centre on Tuesday 6th February to discuss the situation.
